Description 18th Century Rushlight Holder or sometimes known as a Rush Nip holder. A wonderfully authentic piece featuring a beautifully hand-forged iron rush nip clamp set into an original time-worn solid timber block base. These primitive pieces were shed in cottages and rural homes before candles were widely affordable. Designed to hold a tallow dipped rush and provide a simple and practical source of light. A rare piece of early English folk lighting with rich patina.
